Of these, usage of a personal computer at home by specific age groups reflected 1604 people aged 0-19 years (15.0%), 1939 people aged 20-44 years (18.2%), 1114 people aged 45-64 years (10.4%) and 209 people aged 65 years and over (2.0%).

The total number of persons who had used the Internet in the week preceding the 2001 Census was 4233. There were 466 people (4.4%) who had used the Internet at work only, 2536 people (23.8%) who had used the internet at home only and 305 people (2.9%) who had used the internet elsewhere only.

There were 926 people (8.7%) who provided a multiple response to the question of Internet use. There were 658 people (6.2%) who had used the Internet at home and at work, 211 people (2.0%) who had used the Internet at home and elsewhere, 12 people (0.1%) who had used the Internet at work and elsewhere, and 45 people (0.4%) who had used the Internet at home, work and elsewhere.

 
Registered Marital Status

In the 2001 Census, there were 4246 married people (49.6%) (2113 males and 2133 females), 319 separated people (3.7%) (135 males and 184 females), 795 divorced people (9.3%) (312 males and 483 females), 714 widowed people (8.3%) (127 males and 587 females) and 2489 people who had never been married (29.1%) (1330 males and 1159 females).

In the 1996 Census, there were 4297 married people (52.8%) (2141 males and 2156 females), 312 separated people (3.8%) (121 males and 191 females), 653 divorced people (8.0%) (263 males and 390 females), 610 widowed people (7.5%) (103 males and 507 females) and 2269 people who had never been married (27.9%) (1272 males and 997 females).

In the 1991 Census, there were 4440 married people (57.7%) (2199 males and 2241 females), 259 separated people (3.4%) (105 males and 154 females), 462 divorced people (6.0%) (180 males and 282 females), 434 widowed people (5.6%) (97 males and 337 females) and 2095 people who had never been married (27.2%) (1137 males and 958 females).

In the 2001 Census, 171 (2.0%) people (74 males and 97 females) held a postgraduate degree, graduate diploma or graduate certificate. This compares with 127 (1.6%) people (75 males and 52 females) in the 1996 Census and 89 (1.2%) people (50 males and 39 females) in the 1991 Census.

In the 2001 Census, 718 (8.4%) people (309 males and 409 females) held a bachelor degree, compared with 535 (6.6%) people (255 males and 280 females) in the 1996 Census and 376 (4.9%) people (190 males and 186 females) in the 1991 Census.

During the week prior to Census Night 2001, 4901 people in Ashmore (2569 males and 2332 females) were employed, representing 92.0% of the labour force. Of these, 3044 (62.1%) people (1900 males and 1144 females) were working full-time and 1701 (34.7%) people (590 males and 1111 females) were working part-time. This compares with 4807 (90.8%) people (2611 males and 2196 females) who were employed in the 1996 Census and 4528 (89.4%) people (2467 males and 2061 females) who were employed in the 1991 Census.

In the 2001 Census, 428 people (253 males and 175 females) were unemployed, representing 8.0% of the labour force. In the 2001 Census, 332 (6.8%) people (236 males and 96 females) were employed as Managers and Administrators, which compares with 347 (7.2%) people (254 males and 93 females) in the 1996 Census and 354 (7.8%) people (272 males and 82 females) in the 1991 Census. There were 792 (16.1%) people (364 males and 428 females) employed as Professionals in the 2001 Census, which compares with 752 (15.6%) people (372 males and 380 females) in the 1996 Census and 590 (13.0%) people (281 males and 309 females) in the 1991 Census.

There were 658 (13.4%) people (374 males and 284 females) employed as Associate Professionals in the 2001 Census, which compares with 651 (13.5%) people (383 males and 268 females) in the 1996 Census and 400 (8.8%) people (271 males and 129 females) in the 1991 Census. 665 (13.6%) people (590 males and 75 females) were employed as Tradespersons and Related Workers in the 2001 Census, which compares with 671 (14.0%) people (608 males and 63 females) in the 1996 Census and 689 (15.2%) people (621 males and 68 females) in the 1991 Census.
